Human Spine Anatomy Scoliosis is a common syndrome, affecting over 5 million people in the United States. Scoliosis can be developed at any age, however, the most common time to develop scoliosis is in adolescence. Because we walk on two feet and stand straight upward, the muscles around our spine are constantly working to keep the spine in a straight line and maintain our proper posture. However, due to a variety of causes the spine can start to curve, from side-to-side or front-to-back. If this curvature is larger than 10 degrees it becomes known as scoliosis.

For some, their specific case of scoliosis will call for surgery or bracing to help realign the spine. However, for the majority the most common treatment is careful observation. Through observation, doctors will track the degree of curvature and make sure the curvature is not increasing throughout growth. To treat the symptoms of scoliosis, many patients find relief in spinal manipulation, therapeutic exercises and muscle simulation. At Bolingbrook Family Chiropractic, we aim to help our clients deal with the symptoms of scoliosis and work with them to create a treatment plan that helps minimize their symptoms.
